AUCTIONS IMPERIAL 2026 MAY ARMS & ARMOR
Lot 149:
Description
Fine private purchase for a very high-ranking officer, likely Belgian. Of characteristic mameluke form, the fine grips with rolled pommel and recurved guard wrought of pattern welded damascus steel with knuckle chain intact. The Persiform blade of superior quality, moderately curved and single-edged, and wrought in a closely spaced pattern-welded ladder, each step so perfectly forged as to appear to be wootz in its complexity, the polish so fine it shows true chatoyancy. Retains its original felt chappe. Beginning of the 19th century. Minor rubbing, very slight isolated pitting. Overall length 86.3cm./ 34 inches. Condition II
