TWO RARE OTTOMAN MATARA CANTEENS
Description
Very rarely encountered, of characteristic form, fashioned entirely of leather with elongated spouts and circular bases. Finished with lacing, the first with handwrought suspension hook and wooden plug intact. Mid-18th century. Light wear and rubbing. Overall height of the taller 32cm/ 12 ½ inches. A number of such water flasks are preserved in the Askeri Muzesi, Istanbul. Condition II
