Description
A massive saber, the hilt of characteristic open form, with curved octagonal wooden grip covered in black leather and stepped steel pommel cap and cruciform guard with bead terminals and long langets, each heavily gilded. The fine broad Styrian blade with two fullers, with expanded and radiused tip. Etched at the forte on either side with the moon, sun and stars and an arm extending a saber from a cloud on the other, the edge retaining some original sharpness. Second half of the 18th century. Minor wear. Overall length 98cm./ 38 37/64 inches. Condition III
