A fine example of a small but well-known group of quintessentially Ottoman blades. The hilt with massive, scalloped exotic grips, guard and pommel bosses of silver, the guard with engraved border. The fine broad, deeply-curved blade wrought of superior Persian wootz, with characteristically superb panels chiseled in relief at the forte in fine rumi vinework, enriched with gold panels in sunken reserve and inscribed in gold inlay, LA FATTAH ILLA ‘ALI LA SAIF ILLA THULFAQAR! (THERE IS NO HERO LIKE ‘ALI AND NO SWORD LIKE ZULFAQAR!) and ALLAH! TUKLAT ALI! (TRUST IN ALI!) with additional gold inlay panels at the yelman, the spine with gold vinework inlay. 18th century. Tangband rubber, light wear to gold. Overall length 86.1cm / 33 57/64 inches. Condition II
