Description
An early, robust example. The well-wrought guard of steel with expanded, faceted quillon terminals, the dark hardwood grips well carved and fluted, the characteristic pommel scrolled and beaked and extensively studded with brass and set on each side with three silver bosses, the tangband likewise silver with touches of niello. The long, broad, curved blade with pronounced yelmen back edge forged of Istanbul Bayaz wootz damascus steel. Beginning of the 18th century. Minor wear, isolated areas of pitting. Overall length 92.3cm/ 36 1/3?. Condition III
