Of characteristic form, the polished rhino grips carved at the rolled pommel, with gilt bronze guard and tangband elaborately gold inlaid. The long, elegantly curved, single-edged Persian heirloom blade wrought of fine Persian black wootz and inscribed in a polygonal cartouche, AMAL-E KALB ALI (Work of Kalb Ali, traditionally the son of Assad Allah) above a gold inlaid panel containing remains of a Tatar family tamga. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with intricate silver wire-bound seam and steel suspension bands inlaid in gold. Latter 18th century. Locket and chape lacking. Overall length 94.4cm / 37 1/8". Condition III
