Made in Naples, likely in the same shop as the preceding lot. The guard of shell type, formed of a large, domed oval plate, the obverse chiseled with a lion amongst foliage, the panels connected by loops which connect the guard, knucklebow and quillons, both with en suite bead terminals. Wooden grip with spirally-twisted wire wrap retaining its turkshead knots, terminating in a pommel of spherical form. The long, broad single-edged blade with pronounced back edge tapering to an acute thrusting tip. First half of the 17th century. Areas of minor pitting. Overall length 56cm / 22?. Condition II
