Quality Mughal work, the head of characteristic form, finely forged of Persian Kara Taban black wootz with gold-inlaid borders. The wooden haft with elaborately engraved mounts retaining substantial original gilding. Late 17th- early 18th century. Gold inlay well worn, minor areas of pitting, gilding rubbed. Overall length 55cm./ 21 21/32 inches. Condition III
