Description
Moro People of Mindanao, an earlier example made for a Datu or chief with junggayan hilt. The elephant kakatua-form pommel with cord wrap and silver mounts. The finely wrought blade with separate gangya retained by a profiled steel baca-baca, with deeply-incised okir scrollwork with remais of original silver inlay. In its figured wooden scabbard with carved throat and plaited rattan band. First half of the 19th century or earlier. Minor wear, chape lacking. Overall length 62.2cm/ 24 ½ inches. Condition III
