Description
Moro work of classic form, exhibiting the considerable skill of Maranao bronze-workers. Strongly influenced by the burgonet worn by the Spanish in the 16th century, with domed skull, the pronounced comb with scrollwork, the peak and neckguard with roped borders, and panels of fine okir-work, hinged earplates profiled at the lower edge. The pierced plume holder retaining its rare original silver-embroidered velvet sleeve with later plume. From the estate of an American Army officer during the Spanish American War. First half of the 19th century or earlier. Minor wear, small interior repairs. Overall height 33.5cm./ 13 ¼ inches.Condition I
