Description
A fine, large example, the hilt with fine horn grips, the guard elegantly and elaborately inlaid with gold. The fine broad, deeply-curved blade wrought of superb Ottoman wootz with a deep fuller at either side and characteristic expanded tip. With elaborate gold inlay panels and inscriptions to either side of the forte including ALLAH! TUKLAT ALI! (Trust in Ali) and MASH’ALLAH! (God’s blessing!) In its black leather-covered wooden scabbard with intricate wire binding seam and large, gold-inlaid locket, suspension band and chape en suite with the hilt. 18th century. Minor wear to gold. Overall length 92.6cm./36 ½ inches. Condition III
