Description
Early Qajar Dynasty, very rarely encountered. Comprising five handwrought plates hinged together, each with scalloped upper edge, the front plates with embossed pectorals and fitted with buckles. Each plate elaborately chiseled overall in finely detailed scenes from the Shahnameh of Ferdowsi, including cartouches containing Persian kings, heroes and poets bordered in gold, amongst panels of complex foliage, and broad borders containing silver inlaid Quranic inscriptions, the edges of each plate likewise inlaid in silver vinework. First half of the 19th century. Light wear. Overall height 28.3cm./ 11 9/64 inches. Condition II
