Description
Fine workmanship, the circular body of wood, covered in textured, tanned leather, the reverse of handstitched suede, supporting a rigid suede-wrapped handgrip and loose arm sling, together with a sheath for the central steel spike retained by brass brackets. The obverse intricately studded at the center with silvered nail heads in a polylobate design, with stamped decoration overall and set with 18 silvered suns in splendor, together with 12 finely-executed silvered plaques in baroque motifs of stands of arms, and the silvered central boss finely modeled as the head of Medusa encircled by writhing snakes, the spike fitting into her open mouth. 20th century. Minor losses to studs, central spike fits loosely. Diameter 48.5cm./ 19 3/32 inches. Condition II
