A very rare example, the blade robust and wrought with a distinct raised back edge or yelman, and thrusting tip. The steel guard with incipient langets and square quillon finials. The en suite pommel of lobate form. 9th-10th century. Excavated. As found. Ex-Egil Haggmann Collection, N.Y. 1974. Overall length 23.6 cm./9 ½ inches Condition V.
