Description
A superb princely firearm, the finely grained hardwood stock with rosewood breech block and pierced steel trigger. The fine, patternwelded steel sideplates inlaid in the stock, with finely cusped terminals. The barrel inscribed in Devanagari, No. 419 HARNATH SINGHJI DUNDLOD (from the armory of Prince Harnath Singh, Shekawat Rajput rulers, Dundlod, N. Rajasthan) and wrought of the most exceptional pattern-welded damascus steel, composed of bands of large and small spirals, chevrons, “orange slices” and others. 18th-19th century. With characteristic flared muzzle, retained by steel bands. With original ramrod. Minor wear. Overall length 142.7cm/56 inches. Condition II
