Description
Likely associated with a satanic cult, the body formed of ibex horn with a pair of brass suspension rings, the spout of turned bone. The cap finely carved in a fully-modeled head of Satan, with high forehead with malevolent wrinkles sprouting a pair of short, hooked horns, arched eyebrows, a large, hooked nose and broad cheekbones, narrowed eyes with inlaid pupils, and sneering, fanged lips between a dense mustache and pointed beard. Whisps of hair appear at the juncture of head and horn, as though Satan were slowly emerging from it. 19th century. Very slight wear. Overall length 23.5cm/ 9 ½ inches. Condition II
