Description
Pokot People of Kenya, a rare example of a shield which is typically formed of animal hide wrought entirely of steel. Of characteristic rectangular form, with raised central ridge and expanded, cusped corners. Retains its original grip system composed of a smoothed branch with raised median section bound with hide strips to apertures in the shield, with hide knuckle pad intact. Late 19th-early 20th century. Well patinaed overall. Overall height 91cm.
