Description
Wrought of steel, with faceted socket terminating in tigers heads gripping the base of the standard, formed as a waisted semicircular frame terminating in a robust spearhead supported by a pair of curling serpents. Inscribed in the central section in fine thuluth Arabic on the obverse, (Quran 61:12-13) VICTORY FROM GOD AND CONQUEST NIGH! AND GIVE GOOD TIDINGS TO THE BELIEVERS! GOD IS THE BEST GUARDIAN AND THE MOST MERCIFUL OF THE MERCIFUL! Followed by the rulers name: HUSSEIN OF SALAR. The reverse untranslated. 16th-17th century. As found. Likely Mughal work for the Ruler of Salar in what is now Uzbekistan. Overall length 55.4cm/ 21 7/8 inches. Condition V
