Description
A very rare type. The persiform hilt with silver tangbands and embossed silver bosses to either side of the polished horn grips with silver wire wrap to base, the characteristic arched silver pommel, embossed and engraved, and filigreed, retains and its distinctive lanyard ring. The guard of steel. The heirloom Persian blade lightly curved and wrought of complex wootz, with traces of original inscriptions and clear temperline. In its leather-covered scabbard with characteristic embossed leather mounts, and retaining its rare, elaborately embroidered locket and baldric mounted with a handwrought steel suspension ring. Latter-18th century. Well worn. Overall length 90.4cm/ 35 ¾ inches. Condition II
