Description
A fine Ottoman shamshir blade, lavishly inscribed in gold thuluth characters in geometrical cartouches for most of its length on each side, the hilt lacking, the surface pitted. Likely found in the precincts of a saints tomb, or turbe, and treated as a holy relic which was carried before elite troops. Appears to show damascus construction. 18th century. As found. Overall length 95.2cm/ 37 ½ inches.
