Description
Comprising an embellished helmet, shield, battleaxe and mace, each embellished en suite with panels of foliage and cameos of Persian heroes from the ShahNameh or Book of Kings. The helmet of characteristic hemispherical form with elongated top spike, nasal bar and plume tubes, with a camail of butted rings. The circular steel shield with four bosses and raised rim. The axe with crescent blade, and mace with features and a pair of horns, representing a demon. 20th century. Worn overall. Diameter of shield 48cm/ 18 7/8 inches. Condition III
