Description
An extremely rare form likely influenced by Ottoman cavalry helmets, of higher than average quality. The camail wrought entirely of small, robust riveted steel rings with characteristic triangular flap designed to protect the wearer’s face, reaching to the mid chest and back. With rare large, flat circular steel plate at the apex silvered overall, with intact plume tube at its center. Mid-17th century. Very minor losses. Overall length 57cm. Condition II
