Description
A massive example, elegantly embellished and exhibiting superior workmanship, the dark horn grips cut with chevrons, set with steel profiled steel bosses inlaid with gold and silver. The long, broad, well-forged blade with precision fullering and tapering tip, struck with two makers marks to the obverse and inlaid with gold vinework motifs to either side. In its leather-covered scabbard with en suite silver-inlaid chape. First half of the 19th century. Inlay worn, minor rusting, leather rubbed. Overall length 53.5cm/21 1/8 inches. Condition III
