Description
A superior example of an extremely rare type, the work of a Tiflis (Tbilisi) master. The persiform hilt with silver pommel and guard with expanded terminals of silver, finely engraved and nielloed overall, the polished horn grips with en suite nielloed silver bosses, the tangbands gold inlaid. The broad, shallowly-curved Persian heirloom wootz blade with complex pattern and back edge. Signed at the right forte in an inlaid cartouche, WORK OF ALI AHI. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard, with large, finely profiled, engraved and nielloed silver mounts en suite with the hilt, the guard and chape terminals struck with Georgian silvermarks.
