Description
The hilt engraved in characteristic motifs and superbly nielloed, the pommel with Ottoman Imperial crest on one side and on the reverse an inscription reading OTTOMAN and the date (1)315 (1897 c.e.) The lightly curved, handforged blade broad and multifullered, struck with a makers cartouche at the right forte. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with large silver mounts engraved and nielloed en suite with the hilt and silver chape with engraved borders. Dated 1897. Overall length 100.1cm./ 39 7/8 inches. Lightly worn. Condition II
