Description
The well-wrought hilt with fully modeled Mexican eagle head pommel and snake guard, wrought entirely in iron and finely inlaid in silver overall, with the owner’s initials PF at either side of the pommel. Mounted with a Spanish dragoon blade with back fuller and cut and thrust tip modified in period, struck on the right side, POR EL REY CARLOS III and on the left, F DRAGONES. TO (TOLEDO) 1776, each side with makers stamp.. First quarter of the 19th century. Blade with areas of pitting. Overall length 95.9cm/ 37 3/4 inches. Condition III
