Description
Wrought entirely of steel, the steel hilt with symmetrical lobed pommel, ergonomic grip and guard of characteristic form displaying curled quillons with monster head terminals, retaining some silver inlay. The long, straight, broad blade, double-edged with ogival tip, etched over its entire surface on either side with cartouches containing complex verse interspersed with busts of Persian heroes from the Shahnameh. Second half of the 19th century. Wear to hilt inlay. Overall length 87.3cm/ 34 1/4 inches. Condition III
