Description
An exceptional example, the hilt wrought entirely of silver, the grip decorated with chevrons and spherical, segmented pommel, the knucklebow stepped at the center and terminating in a robust quillon end likewise stepped, and rounded clamshell guard embellished with radiating flutes. The long, single-edged blade with broad central fuller and long thrusting tip, retains its original full length. Etched, NO ME SACQUES SIN RAZON at the right forte and NO ME EMBAINES SIN HONOR on the right (DO NOT DRAW ME WITHOUT REASON / DO NOT SHEATHE ME WITHOUT HONOR.) Beginning of the 19th century. Light wear, minor stable crack to spine. 96 cm / 37.8 inch Condition II
