Description
Likely Maguindanao work made for a datu or chief, the banati wood grip of rounded, hooked form, mounted in silver engraved in okir motifs, interspersed with copper bands encircling the grip. The robust, waved blade with baca-baca intact and well handwrought, with engraved okir panels at the forte. In its wooden scabbard with silver and copper mounts. First quarter of the 20th century. Scabbard with losses. Overall length 69.8cm/ 27 1/2 inches. Condition III
