Description

A very rare example, ascribed to the Katu mountain peoples of the Bolaven Plateau or in Laos. Carved from two sections of wood; of circular form, and lacquered a lustrous black overall. The lightly-dished surface inlaid with radiating white metal vanes, with a multi-petaled flower at the center, the rim with triple bands. The reverse with a pair of wooden grip rails. 19th-20th century. Light wear, minor rubbing, losses to reverse. See J-P.
