A form carried by the Beja of Northern Sudan, composed of thick hide with rolled edge and a domed central boss. Original grip intact. Second half of the 19th century. Period repair to rim. The Beja formed the loyal core of the Mahdi?s forces, typically seeing the hardest fighting. Diameter 33.5cm./ 13 ? inches. Condition III
