Woven of cotton and stamped overall with inscriptions, prayers and holy representations for spiritual protection in battle. Such shirts required extensive prayer by Theravada monks who were considered to have profound spiritual strength; this example was made at the temple of Wat Bangkrabao. Shirts of this type were last used during the Free Thai guerilla movement against the Japanese in the early 1940s. First half of the 20th century. Overall length 57cm./ 22 ? inches. Condition I
