Well-carved of blond horn, likely produced in one of the Texas missions by Indians under the supervision of a colonial master craftsman. With geometrical carving to the spout and neck, the body representing a monk feeding sheep beside a cat dressed as an hidalgo in the act of bowing, complete with sword, machete, sombrero with feather and high boots, in characteristic garments and inscribed beneath in inlaid characters, LA CAVANA DE TOM (Tom?s Cave.) Early 20th century. With studded terminal and toggle intact. Overall length 31.8cm./ 12 ? inches. Condition II
