Description
Mughal work of classic form, the fine green jade grip waisted, with expanded pommel and base, the pommel with rounded terminal chiseled with flowering vine motifs and set with three garnets and retaining traces of original gold inlay. The curved, double-edged blade tapering continually to the thickened armor-piercing tip with high central ridge, wrought of superior black wootz showing dramatic pattern and high contrast. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with large, elaborately embossed and engraved mounts. 18th century. Slight chipping to pommel. Overall length 36.5cm / 14 3/8 inches. Condition II
