Description
A rare type, the shirmani grips of characteristic form with profiled median rib, set with elaborately filigreed silver bosses and tangband, the straight, double-edged blade tapering acutely to an armor-piercing tip with chiseled central panel showing a dark Turkish wootz damascus steel pattern. The wooden scabbard covered in embossed and chased silver in Ottoman baroque motifs, the locket worked entirely in filigreed silver bands set with fluted corals. First half of the 18th century. Minor wear. Overall 44cm./ 17 5/16th. inches Condition II
