Description
Mughal work, made for a very big man. The heavily-gilded grip finely engraved overall and terminating in the fully-modeled head of a parrot, a creature believed capable of foretelling the future. The massive blade of Salawar form, similar to a Khyber knife, but considerable larger, with broad T-back, tapering from the wide forte to the recurved tip, and wrought of exceptional patternwelded damascus steel. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard. First half of the 19th century. Minor wear, velvet rubbed. Overall length 84.7cm./ 33 ? inches.
