Description
The heavily-gilded hilt a type often associated with the Talpur Dynasty, rulers of Sind (1783-1843.) The exceptional Persian blade single-edged and moderately curved, an exceedingly rare double-ladder, forged of fine and rare Kara Taban Persian black wootz damascus steel in a ladder pattern with not one but two parallel rungs evenly-spaced from forte to tip on each side. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with three large steel mounts superbly inlaid in gold and silver in elaborate flowering vinework. Late 18th century. Hilt and with mounts with isolated areas of pitting, blade worn, velvet and braid refreshed. Overall length 92.7cm./36 ? inches. Condition III
