Description
A rare example of a weapon typically found in the Transcaucasus and northern Iran, its design suggests it was used in place of the saber, probably for close fighting by infantrymen. With a large, kindjal-type horn grip set with Persian silver coins. The broad similar in cross-section to Georgian saber blades, with silver-inlaid vinework and lions and fullering along the spine. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with brass mounts. Latter 19th century. Minor chipping to grips, light wear. Overall length 71cm./28 inches. Condition III
