A massive example with elephant grip of typical form, retained by silver rivets with Imperial Russian coins, the exceptionally broad, parallel-edged damascus steel blade with obtuse point, the narrow central fullers wrought of complex twistcore damascus steel and struck with maker?s marks. The leather-covered wooden scabbard with characteristic iron suspension band and pierced and profiled chape. First half of the 19th century. Worn. Overall length 54.6cm./ 21 ? inches. Condition III
