Description
Likely Germanic, the robust steel hilt with pierced shell guard and fluted ecusson and pommel with wooden grip. Mounted with a fine heirloom blade dated 1551 at the forte in a short fuller between a pair of X marks, together with the Solingen running wolf. 17th century, earlier blade dated 1551. Well worn. Overall length 96.5cm./ 38 inches. Condition III
