Description
Flemish, with well-wrought steel hilt of characteristic form with spherical pommel and solid shell guards. Grip retains original steel wire wrap and turkshead knots. Mounted with a fine gently-tapering heirloom blade dated 1550 at the forte between a pair of makers marks, with long central ridge and acute tip. Early 17th century, earlier blade dated 1550. Worn overall. Overall length 94.2cm./ 40 1/8 inches. Condition III
