Description
English or German, the hilt wrought of woven hide with large silver mounts, including bands, ferrule and a well-modeled hounds head pommel, the brass guard with button quillon terminals likewise overlaid with a silver plaque where it meets the ferrule and retaining its felt washer. The fine straight, double-edged blade finely fullered, with panels of blued and gilded trophies, showing much original finish from midsection to tip, and signed P. KNECHT at the right forte and A SOLINGEN at the left. In its leather scabbard with original frog and brass mounts. Early 19th century. Bluing and gilding rubbed, leather rubbed and scuffed. Overall length 70.6cm./27 7/8 inches.
