Description
A type widely distributed throughout the Spanish Colonies in the 19th century. Likely Cuban work, the distinctive hilt with fingerstalls and hooked pommel known as the “Guanabacoa†type (after the township in eastern Havana.) This example fitted with a brass guard and knucklebow as well, with sections of polished horn set in the grip. The long, straight blade single-edged, with radiused tip and profiled plaques at the forte. 19th century. Patinated overall. Overall length 103.2 cm. Condition II
