Description
A very rare set of Edo-era samurai gauntlets and garment of padded cotton with stamped blue vinework motifs and high collar, each enclosing a network of polygonal horn plates. The gauntlets retain their original lacing and finger loops. Late 18th-early 19th century. Minor wear. Overall length of coat 101 cm. Horn armor is an old and very rare type considered preferable to mail due to its weight. Condition III
