Description
Qajar Dynasty, a massive example. The steel hilt with flared, bifurcate pommel and quillon terminals formed as dragonheads, elaborately inlaid in both gold and silver with birds amongst flowering vines. The long blade elegantly recurved, with pronounced T-back, broad central fuller and expanded yelman or back edge, and etched throughout with Qur’anic verse and intertwining vinework panels at the forte. Mid-19th century. Overall length 97.7 cm.
