Description

An early example, made by the noted firm of Prosser, appointed Royal Sword Cutlers in 1795 under King George III. The steel hilt showing characteristic Prosser form, the leather-covered wooden grip with twisted silver wire intact. Short, fullered blade shows some formal influence from the 1796 Light Cavalry blade. In its leather scabbard with profiled steel mounts, the locket engraved with characteristic Prosser mark: PROSSER / CHARING CROSS / LONDON within a square cartouche. All mounts and blade nickeled. Beginning of the 19th century. Blade with minor nicks, nickel peeling at tip. Condition III
