Description
Edo era, made for a high-ranking samurai. Comprising a steel kabuto helmet in eboshi (nobleman’s court headgear) style, with black lacquer, five steel-plate shikoro and gilded and lacquered maedate in the form of a Buddhist maxim, and matching steel menpo. The do is steel studded with bosses formed as flowers, the rare sode of black-lacquered steel lames with flanged upper edge. The kote are composed of small plates connected by mail, the plated covering the forearm gilded, the kusazuri are likewise small plates, lacquered black en suite. The haidate are composed of mail with small, pierced and gilded plates interspersed, the suneate with gilded plates as are the lower plates of the kote. C. 1750. Light wear overall, small plates lacking from one suneate, rubbing and minor wear to lacquer. On its wooden stand. Height of do 82 cm.
