Description
Of characteristic form, the hilt composed of fibrous horn grips with rolled pommel, the crossguard wrought entirely of black wootz and finely chiseled with central ridges. The thick, moderately curved blade single-edged and wrought of dramatically-grained Persian wootz. Struck at the right forte with a small Ottoman armorer’s mark. In its European-style leather scabbard with finely engraved and gilded silver mounts. Latter 18th century. Leather well worn. Overall length 89.8 cm. Condition III
