Description
Of characteristic form, the hilt composed of fibrous horn grips with rolled pommel, with engraved silver tangband and finely embellished and heavily gilded guard. The thick, moderately curved blade single-edged and wrought of Ottoman Istanbul Baiaz (Istanbul White) wootz. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with large, finely engraved and gilded silver mounts. Latter 18th century. Repair to pommel. Overall length 89.5 cm. Condition III
