Description
A rarely encountered Qajar Dynasty shield, wrought of thick steel for use against firearms. Elaborately chiseled overall with finely detailed nobles hunting and doing battle as well as a hero fighting a dragon, surrounded by cartouches containing Arabic calligraphy. The scalloped bosses with chiseled floral motifs. Exceptionally well-detailed and executed overall. First half of the 19th century. Diameter 47 cm. Condition II
